xAfter his admission to the State Bar of California, Mr. Harowitz began the practice of law, representing defendants in products liability and professional negligence cases. In 1983, the focus of Mr. Harowitz' practice shifted to the representation of plaintiffs. Since that time he has represented victims of medical malpractice, nursing home abuse, consumer and business fraud, product defects and civil rights violations. Mr. Harowitz has successfully tried to verdict over 50 jury trials. Some of the results he has obtained include:
A medical malpractice and nursing home abuse case in which a jury verdict of $1.5 million was obtained in 1989. (Stokey vs. County USC Medical Center et. al.)
Recovery of employment benefits for a terminated teacher with the Los Angeles Unified School District in 1985. (Adler vs. Unified School District)
Recovery of severance benefits on behalf of employees of a division of G.D. Searle upon sale of that division in an ERISA class action suit in 1987 (Nivison vs G.D. Searle)
The first jury verdict for asbestos victim against Exxon Refinery for its negligence in the operation of its Benecia refinery in 1994. (Juniel vs. Exxon)
The first jury verdict in the nation for an asbestos victim against Allied Signal for asbestos exposure from Bendix brake products in 1992. (Griffith vs Allied Signal)
A $6.3 million jury verdict in 2001 against Allied Signal, Volkswagen, Suzuki and Wagner for a by-stander who was exposed to asbestos containing automotive products. (Prior vs. Volkswagen et. al.)
The first personal injury jury verdict in the nation for asbestos exposure emanating from forklift brakes in 1999. (Hogue vs Moore)
A $2.8 million jury verdict in 2000 on behalf of a plant worker at asbestos cement pipe manufacturing facility against asbestos fiber miner. (Haas vs. Calavaras Asbestos)
Over the years Mr. Harowitz has presented information at a number of national professional seminars and meetings. He has also participated as a teacher in the University of San Francisco's Intensive Advocacy Program. Mr. Harowitz has served as a settlement coordinator for the San Francisco Bar Association Early Settlement Program and for the San Francisco Superior Court.
